Lurgan Town FC Hopes Barcelona Tournament Will Be Wee Buns!

Excitement is growing in Lurgan Junior High as the boys from Lurgan Town Football Club are preparing to go to Barcelona.

There are six teams going to the Barcelona Cup from the Under 10s to the Under 14s. The boys will be going from 21st – 24th April.
Lurgan Town FC is a cross-community club, established in 1988. They have two 3G pitches at the arena and a grass pitch. The club are enjoying a new club house and are well kitted out with 2 sets of changing rooms, car parking facilities and flood lights in both of the 3G pitches.

Lurgan Town proudly boasts of having over 500 members. The club has 2 men’s teams, a ladies team, 2 girl’s teams, a disability team and 20 boy’s Junior teams along with a kids academy for those aged between 5 and 9.

Lurgan Junior High’s caretaker Mr Cassells coaches the Under 12 boys on a Monday night and Mr McKinley, the school caretaker for Harrison Nursery is the treasurer of the club and the coach of the under 17s he also coaches the Lurgan Junior High Girl’s Football on Monday afternoons.

Ashley, 9BY, commented on his previous experience of the trip, “It was a great experience for us as a team. We played lots of matches and this trip really helped us to bond as a team and develop friendships.

“My favourite experience was playing against Barcelona’s Youth Team because their team was really professional and this challenged us and helped us play better.”

Another pupil, Daniel, also from 9BY, is really excited about his first trip away with the club.

“It will be a brilliant experience to be able to play against some of the best teams in the world.” He said. “Playing on Barcelona’s pitches will be amazing! I cannot wait to have a go on playing in one of the best training grounds in the world, which Messi played during his youth training days.

“It will be amazing to watch them train and see what they do.”

In a bid to raise funds for the boys going to Barcelona, a bun sale was organised to help them on their way.

Lurgan Junior High is really proud of its community links and we wish the boys from Lurgan Town FC every success in their tournament.
